Joseph Smith Academy on the Ground |
As of this morning the Joseph Smith Academy is completely on the ground. Once home to St. Mary's Academy, to St. Mary's Monastery and the Benedictine Sisters, and to the Joseph Smith Academy, the building has served its purpose. The view from Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Nauvoo Temple will now be clear and they will again stand as lights on the bluff in Nauvoo.
The building came down quietly and constantly until all that remains now is to separate all of the bricks and metal and glass. The only problem with destruction came in the evening of November 6 when part of the main entrance came down on a Fire Hydrant. The water ran for over an hour but was handled by Barry Cuthbert of the City of Nauvoo.
