Southern Virginia University visits Nauvoo
It appears that S.V.U. is getting very serious about coming to Nauvoo.  Over the past several months Nauvoo city leaders and others have met with President Smith and others from Southern Virgina to analyze Nauvoo and the potential of developing a program similar to what B.Y.U. has had in the Joseph Smith Academy here in Nauvoo. When B.Y.U. announced plans to discontinue the program here in Nauvoo, there were several schools that immediately called and expressed interest in the program and the facility.  Upon finding out that the facility would likely be demolished due to its age, and that this was a major factor in the decision to end the program, several schools decided not to come.  S.V.U. has over the course of time continued to review all pertinent information and meet with several key people who are trying to put this together.  Mayor John McCarty has said that the BYU students will be missed in Nauvoo.  Nauvoo has enjoyed many donated service hours from the students and local businesses have enjoyed having a year round group in Nauvoo no matter how small the number when compared with the summer travel season.  We at the Nauvoo Villas, "the Condos" welcome President Smith and Southern Virginia University and invite them to Come Home In Nauvoo.
