Nauvoo Blog
David Miller is a resident of Carthage, Illinois and works in Nauvoo. In addition to managing the Nauvoo Villas "The Condos," he has served in many capacities with the Boy Scouts of America, the Nauvoo Beautification Committee, Biz Link - Linking Hancock County Businesses, and the Nauvoo Chamber of Commerce. At the Chamber of Commerce, he served 1 year on the Executive Committee, 3 years as President, and is now serving a 2-year term as Past President on the Board of Directors. David, an Idaho native, is proud to have (as one long-time community resident once said) "sunk some deep roots in Nauvoo." David believes strongly that Nauvoo, Carthage, and Hancock County all offer the best home for him his wife and his five children, and he works hard to share his love of Nauvoo with its residents, guests, and friends.

Come to Nauvoo and you'll see why it has been said, "This is the loveliest place and the best people under the heavens." It was true when it was said, and it is still true over 100 years later.

Harvest Time!
Written by David Miller
Thursday, 30 August 2007
The Corn crops are all but ready for the imminent harvest. With summer coming to end it is also time to harvest the fruits of the season. In Nauvoo that means the grapes on the vine are ripening and the corn in the field follows quickly. The Nauvoo landscape will change with the cutting of thousands of acres of crops that stand anywhere from 6 - 8 feet tall. Once the fields are cut, farm houses and barns that were once hidden by the lush green growth of the summer will again come into full view and cars using the highway and rural county roads will be able to see for miles.

JSA Update
Written by David Miller
Thursday, 30 August 2007
Well folks the auction at the Joseph Smith Academy was held this past Saturday. There were many people in attendance and they sold just about everything. Now as we watch the systematic salvage of all that was auctioned off, it seems that the end in near. There are Scout groups who purchased the wardrobe closets in the dorms to use at Camps Eastman and Saukenauk. The community theater group from Warsaw bought all of the seats in the auditorium. Some who have spent their school years in the buildings came for a piece of history that they could take with them. Every day someone else comes in to clear out the items they purchased and the building looks a little more lonely. I know that there will be something newer and more serviceable that will replace the aged building and we look forward to that, but can not help but remembering some of the history and the many lives that this facility has affected. It has served the Nauvoo community well for many years. Farewell our friend.

Nauvoo is proud of its long reputation for preserving its history. Unfortunately, not all historical buildings and relics can be saved. So come visit Nauvoo often. Enjoy its past, its present, and its future. When you come, consider staying with us at Nauvoo Villas and Condos. Come Home in Nauvoo.

Once the home of the Brigham Young University study program, the Joseph Smith Academy will be torn down in a few weeks. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has made the determination that trying to save the aged building is not cost effective and will be putting bulldozers into action in a few short weeks.
