Halloween Walk, Another Fantastic Event
Written by David Miller
Sunday, 26 October 2008
Nauvoo IL Pumkin Walk 2008The Nauvoo Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual Halloween Walk last weekend on 25 October 2008.  The event traditionally takes place on the last Saturday before Halloween.  The weather was perfect, with just enough chill in the air to let you know that it is indeed fall in Nauvoo, but there was still lots of sunshine throughout the day.

Through the miraculous efforts of a dedicated group of volunteers under the direction of Durrel Nelson, the chamber manages to harvest, clean, decorate, carve and line Mulholland Street with approximately 500 pumpkins. The events of the day include a Haunted House with some local characters that you would not want to meet in a dark alley, the best fortune teller this side of the Mississippi River, a movie for the kids at Grandpa John's across the street from the Hotel Nauvoo, a parade through the downtown area, and many different civic groups and businesses selling all kinds of great food and unique Nauvoo items.  In the afternoon preparations include setting up buckets and straw bales from a local Nauvoo farm.  After that we begin meticulously placing the freshly carved pumpkins.  After the candles are inserted, the task of lighting and keeping the pumpkins lit for the evening begins.  Soon the streets are lined with a fun display of pumpkins and thousands of visitors.

It is always a fun evening for all who come.  It is a chance to rub shoulders with friends who have moved away and come back for the weekend or with local friends who have been so busy that they have missed seeing each other for a while.  Nauvoo and the whole Hancock County area are home to some great friends.

If you are looking for something fun to do, plan a trip to Nauvoo and take in some of the sights in the fall.  Nauvoo is a great destination no matter when you decide to come.  You will want to have a great Nauvoo experience and that means finding a great place to stay.  Nauvoo Vacation Villas and Condos are your home away from home.  You will enjoy both the quiet country setting and the close proximity to Nauvoo.  You will find that our fully furnished units give you a great alternative to crowded hotel rooms.  Stay with Nauvoo Vacation Villas and Condos and Come Home in Nauvoo at your Home away from Home: Nauvoo Vacation Villas.

It Has Finally Happened

Well after some long discussions and much planning working with the Sonora Township and Hancock County, we have a covered road in front on the Villas/Condos.  The township has been laying down gravel all summer and, as those of you who have been here can testify, it has been dusty.  They have graded the road, worked on the drainage, and replaced culverts, all in preparation for a nice layer of hot tar followed by a thick layer of chips (rocks).  As all of that compacts it will give a nice smooth road with very little dust or rocks.

Now when you come to your home in Nauvoo, you will be able to enjoy a cleaner car and not have to worry about all of the loose rocks that were on the road.  Nauvoo Vacation Villas is proud to be able to have you as our guest and hope that during your stay you will feel right at home.  We are looking forward to having a great fall season which will offer a change of scenery and very pleasant temperatures.  Check out our web site and start planning your next trip to Nauvoo.  You can relax and enjoy the rich history and feeling of this small mid west town which offers such a great life of simplicity.  Stop by and check out the best place to stay while you are in Nauvoo.  If you want to feel at home in Nauvoo, call us and let us show you how and where you can feel like you are coming home in Nauvoo at the Nauvoo Vacation Villas & Condos.

Image Cast Members of the Nauvoo Pageant, an outdoor musical production that portrays life in Nauvoo in the early 1800's, wowed the guests who attended a benefit performance at the Old State Capitol building in Springfield IL. on Sunday July 13th.  The two performances at 4 pm and 7 pm were well attended.  Although the performance was free, donations were accepted to help restore Lincoln-Herndon Law Office State Historic Site.

"Our Story Goes On", is an outreach program of the Core Cast of the Nauvoo Pageant and was developed to showcase the many talented members of the cast and encourage guests to come to Nauvoo and participate in the Nauvoo Pageant.  "Our Story Goes On", is the story of life, that we all face.  The story of families and how they came to be united in the love that they share for each other.  The story unfolds as a couple welcome their first child and face the fears that they can measure up to the challenge of raising a family.  Soon the Mother realizes that she is fulfilling the same dream her mother had and having the same concerns.  The story is told through music from Broadway Shows as well as Original works by, Ross Boothe, one of the writers of the production.  As the human families in the story are woven together you can not help but find yourself and your story woven among them.  You realize that we all face the same challenges and trials and as we work together, love and serve each other we have the success we all want.  It is a moving and Inspiring story that is timeless.

Nauvoo Pageant opens
Written by David Miller
Friday, 11 July 2008
Today is the start of the 2008 Nauvoo Pageant.  The pageant is different from what most would think of a typical Pageant.  It is an outdoor musical production that depicts life in 1840's in Nauvoo and how is was for the early Mormon settlers through the eyes of the Robert Laird Family.  The character is a compilation character of different events from diaries of the early settlers in Nauvoo.  The cast is mostly new this year and associate directors have taken the lead this year in the music, dancing, and acting performances.  The production is a highlight of the Nauvoo summer season and brings many people from many areas the world.  If you have not had the chance to come and experience the Nauvoo Pageant you simply must make time to come to Nauvoo and see the production that brings into clear focus that we are all in debt to that one person who could and did and does bring peace and salvation to all who will accept and follow him, even Jesus Christ the Savior of all man kind.

Nauvoo is a great place to visit.

Nauvoo Villas Customer Comments
Written by David Miller

We want to Thank You, our customers for your overwhelming support.  After four years of operation you have given us an approval rating of 1.45 with 1 being Excellent and 2 being Very Good.  We have tried hard to bring you the finest Nauvoo Accommodations.  As you can read from just some of the comments we have received that other than a few things like not having a pool, yet, we have met and exceeded our customers expectations.  We appreciate your honest comments and other than 2 guests who would choose other accommodations all of the respondents would choose to stay with us again.  Please enjoy just a few of the responses to our survey.

Had a wonderful time and would not hesitate to stay in the condos if we return again -- of course, the kids would like there to be a swimming pool, but not having one left us more time for sight seeing.

The size of the 3 bdrm made our stay very comfortable. The full kitchen and back yard area provided additional opportunities for visits with extended family before and after our reunion.

Great place to stay! We enjoyed the quiet setting away from town (quiet nights), but so close to Historic Nauvoo. Great location for our family.

We are hoping to come back this fall and will definitely book with you again.

We've stayed with you two years in a row now -- same condo both times! We look forward to staying with you many more times. When you stay as long as we do, it's great to have the kitchen AND the laundry -- and nice to be just outside of town where it's quieter. Thanks for making our trip back "home" even more enjoyable and relaxing! See you next year!

It was really pleasant. It was quite, clean, comfortable and relaxing. Thank you for being there at such a reasonable rate.

I have recommended your facility to others. we really enjoyed our time in Nauvoo and your condos were perfect for our large family.

We really appreciated have the out door facilities for our family BBQ.

This doesn't really pertain to you, but it would be nice to have better places to eat in Nauvoo. On the other hand, it was nice to have a kitchen so that we could cook.

The staff were very friendly and easy to work with.

We did the City of Joseph pageant for 15 years. Every year we would have to find a place for family and friends. They always had to stay across the river in different states. It is wonderful to be able to stay together and save money on gas and food. Cooking in the rooms helps a lot. We can spend our time together not traveling. Thank you!

We loved our stay! Our party included the bride & groom's families. We rented 4 condos altogether. It allowed us room to visit back and forth in comfort. The bride was able to have her own bathroom to get ready which was a luxury we wouldn't have had in a hotel room. Having the kitchen & washer & dryer were great! Thanks we'll be back again.

The facilities were very nice and clean. I liked how the condos were close enough to town but not right in the heart of everything. We were able to just have some quite nights when we were there, very relaxing.

Wonderful!!!

Excellent accommodations!

I can't recommend this place highly enough. It's obvious that everyone involved takes pride in the accommodations it provides.

The accommodations were perfect in every way. It was the most memorable vacation our family has ever had. We will definitely be back to stay with you. We have referred you to everyone we talk with. Thanks.

We enjoyed our stay so much that we have been recommending your place to everyone we talk to!

My friends an I enjoyed our stay, felt like home.

We were really happy to have a full kitchen and laundry.

We were the first to stay in our condo, the only thing I noticed was that was some construction dust.

I would recommend staying to anyone who ask.

Very nice place to stay. The rest of our extended family stayed in town where there was a pool. Wish they would have stayed with us, but their little kids needed the pool as a change of venue. Do you have any plans to add a pool in the future? We love the villas, so much nicer than anywhere else. Thanks for another wonderful stay in Nauvoo!

Excellent experience.

Thanks to all the staff.

Our stay was two years ago, so I don't remember specifics, but my memories of the Villas are all good ones. Our 3 children (16, 21, 28) especially appreciated having TVs in each bedroom as well as the family area. I loved having washer and dryer right in the kitchen, and a separate bathroom from the kids. It was an amazing facility for the price!

I loved Nauvoo and the condos. Originally scheduled to stay three nights, stayed 5 nights and wished we could have stayed longer.

People just need to know how to find you! Great place, great location, great price! We will come again.

Every time we have stayed here, the staff has been more than accommodating, making the visit so very pleasant. The rooms are always clean and also spacious for a motel. There is not only room to sleep, but room to move. We enjoy the quiet of the country setting. This is our choice to stay every time we visit Nauvoo.

We love the accommodations at the Nauvoo Villas. We stayed one night at the Inn at Nauvoo thinking it would be nice to be close the temple. Next time we would rather spend all of our nights at the villas. Thank you for keeping such nice facilities.

As you can see even those who thought that they wanted to be closer to town or directly across from the temple would have in retrospect stayed with us for their whole vacation experience in Nauvoo.  It truly is more than a motel room.  It is like coming Home in Nauvoo.  You can in some small measure put yourself in the shoes of people who lived in Nauvoo long ago.  You spend the day seeing their homes, their businesses, their farms and then have the modern blessing of an air conditioned Villa to cook your meals or visit with family.  What a great way to learn about the past while enjoying the present.  Don't be fooled by the others who rent out homes at high prices and claiming historical significance.  You will find better value and fewer problems by choosing the best Nauvoo Vacation.  We are not your average Nauvoo Hotel.

For the best Nauvoo Vacation Accommodations, you will want to find your home away from home at Nauvoo Vacation Villas & Condos.

Happy Independence Day!
Written by David Miller

Well the fireworks have all been lit and what a site to see.  Another year of the many freedoms that we have while forgetting all too often the many people who gave so much so that we could live lives of comfort and be with our families and have cookouts and just generally enjoy life.  It has been some time since we have had to wear coats and wrap up in blankets but tonight was one of those nights.  It was beautiful with a little chill in the air.  Day time high was about 78 and the temp at lift off was a balmy 64 degrees.  We have been very spoiled with the low number of warm and humid days so far this summer but something tells me that at some point we will pay the price and have some real summertime heat.  Hancock County is a great place to live and work.  There are so many good people.

When you get the chance to come and visit, take the time to visit the out-of-the way businesses and sites.  The county has dozens of historically significant sites to lure you in and provide days of site seeing.  When you come to our little corner of the world you will want your own little place to call home.  To have a great experience you will need a great Nauvoo Hotel.   Check us out at NauvooVillas.com and see why so many have called this their home away from home.  So much more than your average Inn & Suites type of hotel.  Why settle for just a hotel when you can have a Villa for not much more.  The location is quiet yet very close to all of the Nauvoo sites and offers you amenities that literally make you feel like you are at home.  "Come Home in Nauvoo" at the Nauvoo Vacation Villas & Condos.

The Nauvoo Flooding, is not as bad as you hear on the news
Written by David Miller
Thursday, 19 June 2008
Citizens of Nauvoo have come together and sandbagged the Nauvoo House as it is built low and on the river. The river is now some 15 feet higher in Nauvoo due to the Keokuk Dam which was not in place when the Latter Day Saints settled Commerce and applied for a charter and renamed the City Nauvoo. The road at the end of Parley Street has water and the old Stage for Sunset by the Mississippi, which is no longer in use, has flooded. The bridges across the river are operational but have been closed during the flooding. We have actually seen river levels go down over the past few days. It is devastating that a break in the levee flooded some 8000 acres of ground in Illinois, but it probably saved more towns. Niota, which flooded in 93, is still dry.

I have never had an occasion to ask a person next to me what religion they are so I do not know how many other groups worker together on many sandbagging projects in the area. I am just proud to have such great friends and know so many good people in this American Heartland town. Come and see for yourself why so many love calling Nauvoo HOME!

I just like to remind myself and anyone else listening that it is all of us working together that will make the biggest difference and impact on people and their lives. Yes, Nauvoo survives on Tourism and we love to have people come, so I wanted to get the record a little more clear that we are not floating away and things are OK. Things will be better when the water recedes. I like the fact that people work together in crises like this. Many different groups have put in resources, and certainly the expansive humanitarian efforts of the LDS church do get noticed. The local Illinois Peoria Mission called in many missionaries and others to help with sandbagging. I believe that people do not do it for recognition, but because they care. That is true of all of the locals who have helped to sand bag, have brought food to workers, or have helped to move people's valuables and precious items to higher ground. It truly is a great place to live and work.

We hope that you will all be able to come to Nauvoo and enjoy the peace and comfort of this oasis.  When you come to Nauvoo you will need a great Nauvoo Hotel.  For the best Nauvoo Vacation Accommodations you will want to find your home away from home at Nauvoo Vacation Villas & Condos.   Come Home in Nauvoo and discover the heart of Nauvoo and the American Heartland.  Nauvoo Vacation Villas is "Your home away from home." After your stay in a condo, you will wonder how you ever vacationed without all of the amenities we offer -- all at about the same price as a regular hotel room!  Our 2-bedroom condos are 1000 sq. ft., compared with a 400 sq. ft. of a typical Inn & Suites hotel room. Then factor in the convenience of having a full kitchen with all appliances including, stove, fridge, micro wave, dishwasher, washer & dryer.  Enjoy visiting with family and friends in one of our Villas. You'll feel like you're at home, not sitting on the edge of some motel bed reminiscing about the day. Relaxed. Comfortable. . . . Welcome home.
